体育教研部为中南大学二级教学科研单位,由原中南工业大学体育课部、湖南医科大学体育教研室和长沙铁道学院体育教研室组建而成。体育教研部现有教职员工96人,专任教师82人。其中,教授9人、副教授39人、讲师28人、助教6人,有国际级裁判员1人、国家级裁判员8人、一级裁判员47人,国家级运动健将19人。
体育教研部承担全校的公共体育课教学与学生体质测试、群众体育活动组织、运动队建设与竞赛管理、学生体育社团指导与管理、体育场馆管理与服务等工作,并负责运动训练本科与体育硕士专业建设与学生培养管理。
体育教研部设有第一教研室(大球类)、第二教研室(小球田径类)、第三教研室(综合类)、第四教研室(专业类)4个基层教学组织,设有党政综合办、学工办、业务办、群体办、竞赛办、场馆中心等6个内设机构,有4个教职工党支部、1个学生党支部及1个离退休职工党支部。体育教研部负责建设与管理篮球(男、女)、排球(男、女)、足球、田径、乒乓球等五个项目7支高水平运动队,另有游泳队、羽毛球队、龙狮队等常设运动队。建有“运动与解剖实验室”等4个专业教学实验室和“主动健康与数智体育创新研究中心”等4个学科特色研究中心。
体育教研部负责全校体育场馆的日常管理,总面积约275910㎡。其中,室内用房建筑面积约51032㎡,包括分布在岳麓山校区、潇湘校区、杏林校区、天心校区的5个体育场馆;室外场地面积约224878㎡,包括7个田径场(含足球场)、2个露天游泳池,多片室外篮球场、排球场、网球场等。
近年来,按照“教学是重点、群体是热点、竞赛是亮点、服务是基点”的工作理念,体育教研部年均完成全校三个教学区共3.5万余人次的公共体育课教学任务和体质测试工作,学生体质合格率与优良率逐年上升;管理指导29个学生体育社团比赛,牵头组织龙舟赛、校运会、校园马拉松赛、星光夜跑,协同举办登山节、体育文化节等特色校园体育活动,年均吸引超过2万名师生、20万人次参与,校园体育运动氛围日益浓厚;男篮队连续九年获CUBAL西南赛区冠军,男足队获全国大学生沙滩足球锦标赛三连冠,我校在2017年第十三届全国学生运动会和2021年第十四届全国学生运动会中2次捧回“校长杯”,我校运动员代表湖南省在2023年全国首届学生(青年)运动会中获得6金6银5铜;培养的举重运动员向艳梅,游泳运动员孙文雁、彭惠迪,田径运动员董斌、赵长虹、黄瑰芬、全宇锟、张溟鲲、许双双、张林茹、丰配友、毛金虎,篮球运动员田媛媛等在仁川亚运会、里约奥运会、东京奥运会、巴黎奥运会、世界大运会与各项目世锦赛等国际大赛上代表中国出战并取得佳绩;28名学生与校友代表所属省份出征第十五届全运会收获1金5银2铜,36名师生校友以运动员、教练员、裁判员的身份在2025年湖南省足球联赛(“湘超”)上绽放光彩,“中南五虎”助力永州队夺冠;学校体育场馆承办、承接包括湖南湘涛足球队主场比赛、2023年少年CBA全国挑战赛总决赛、第25届CUBAL男篮全国八强赛主场比赛、2024赛季中国乒超联赛第一阶段比赛、第十五届全运会群众比赛乒乓球项目预赛、2025-2026中国羽超联赛总决赛等重大体育赛事和第二届全国大学生职业规划大赛总决赛等大型活动。

An Introduction to the Department of Physical Education, Central South University
The Department of Physical Education is a secondary teaching and research unit of Central South University (CSU), which was established by merging the former Physical Education Department of Central South University of Technology, Hunan Medical University, and Changsha Railway University.Currently, the department has 96 faculty and staff members, including 82 full-time teachers. Among them are 9 professors, 39 associate professors, 28 lecturers, and 6 teaching assistants. The faculty also includes 1 International Referee, 8 National Referees, 47 Referees of the first grade, and 19 Masters of Sports.
The department is responsible for a wide range of duties across the university, including public physical education teaching, student physical fitness tests conducting, sports activities organizing, sports teams and competitions managing, student sports associations managing, sports venues managing and servicing. In addition, it oversees the program construction and student management for the undergraduate major in Sports Training and the graduates major in Physical Education.
The department is structured into four teaching organizations: the First Teaching and Research Section (covering basketball, football, etc.), the Second Teaching and Research Section (covering table tennis, badminton, track and field, etc.), the Third Teaching and Research Section (focusing on aerobics, sports dance, etc.), and the Fourth Teaching and Research Section (dedicated to discipline development and professional teaching). It also features six internal administrative offices: the General Office of Party and Administrative Affairs, the Student Affairs Office, the Academic Affairs Office, the Mass Sports Office, the Competition Office, and the Venue Center. Furthermore, there are four faculty and staff Party branches, one student Party branch, and one retiree Party branch. The department now has seven high-level sports teams across five events: basketball (men and women), volleyball (men and women), football, track and field, and table tennis. It also maintains regular sports teams such as swimming, badminton, and dragon and lion dance teams. Academically, it has established four professional laboratories, including the "Sports and Anatomy Laboratory," and four research centers, including the "Active Health and Digital Intelligence Sports Innovation Research Center."
The Department of Physical Education manages a total sports venue area of approximately 275,910㎡ across the university. Of this total, the indoor building area is about 51,032㎡, comprising five sports facilities distributed across the Yuelushan, Xiaoxiang, Xinglin, and Tianxin campuses. The outdoor area covers approximately 224,878㎡, including seven track and field grounds (incorporating football pitches), two outdoor swimming pools, and multiple outdoor basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts.
In recent years, guided by the philosophy of "Teaching as the focus, Sports as the hotspot, Competitions as the highlight, and Services as the baseline," the department has annually completed public PE teaching and physical fitness testing for over 35,000 students across the three teaching zones, with the pass rate and excellence rate of students' physical fitness increasing year by year. The department guides 29 student sports associations, leads the organization of events like the Dragon Boat Race, the University Sports Meet, the Campus Marathon, and the Starlight Night Run, and co-hosts distinctive events like the Mountaineering Festival and the Sports Culture Festival. These activities attract over 20,000 teachers and students and involve more than 200,000 participations annually, fostering an increasingly vibrant campus sports atmosphere.
In competitive sports, the men's basketball team has won the CUBAL Southwest Division championship for nine consecutive years, and the men's football team achieved a three-peat in the National College Student Beach Soccer Championship. CSU won the "President's Cup" twice at the 13th and 14th National Student Sports Games in 2017 and 2021, respectively. At the 1st National Student (Youth) Games in 2023, our athletes representing Hunan Province won 6 gold, 6 silver, and 5 bronze medals. The department has also cultivated numerous outstanding athletes who have represented China and achieved remarkable results in major international competitions—including the Asian Games in Incheon, the Olympic Games in Rio, Tokyo, and Paris, the World University Games, and various World Championships. These athletes include weightlifter Xiang Yanmei, swimmers Sun Wenyan and Peng Huidi, track and field athletes Dong Bin, Zhao Changhong, Huang Guifen, Quan Yukun, Zhang Mingkun, Xu Shuangshuang, Zhang Linru, Feng Peiyou, and Mao Jinhu, as well as basketball player Tian Yuanyuan. Moreover, 28 students and alumni represented their respective provinces at the 15th National Games, securing 1 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze medals. Thirty-six faculty members, students, and alumni shone as athletes, coaches, and referees in the 2025 Hunan Football League. Five of our students, nicknamed the "CSU Five Tigers", played a key role in helping the Yongzhou team win the championship. The sports venues have also hosted major events, including home matches of Hunan Xiangtao Football Club, the finals of the 2023 Junior CBA National Challenge, the matches of the Top 8 in the 25th CUBAL Men's National Tournament, the first stage of the 2024 China Table Tennis Super League, the preliminaries of the table tennis mass event for the 15th National Games, the finals of the 2025-2026 China Badminton Super League, and the national finals of the 2nd National College Student Career Planning Competition.
Under the strong leadership of the university's Party committee and administration, the Department of Physical Education will follow the development strategy of "elevating teaching quality, creating unique mass activities, striving for first-class competitive sports, and demonstrating a broad vision in social services." We will actively build a new paradigm of sports education characterized by "sound mechanisms, high-quality teaching, vibrant mass sports, outstanding competitive achievements, leading services, and cultural enrichment." In doing so, we will boost the comprehensive development of the university's sports endeavors and contribute more sporting strength to the connotative, high-quality development of Central South University as it strives to build a world-class university with distinct features.
